Dance of the brolga

One of the special activities offered through the free seasonal ranger program in Kakadu is a weekly traditional weaving demonstration.  I look forward to Tuesdays when I drive over into Arnhem Land to pick up the traditional weavers from Injalak Arts Centre in Gunbalanya.  The landscape is beautiful and inspiring and I always spot some interesting wildlife on the way such as crocodiles, long neck turtles or white-bellied sea eagles.

Recently I spotted some brolgas and pulled over to watch them.  I was lucky enough to capture some of the graceful dancing movements that both male and female birds display as part of their courtship.  You can find out more about brolgas, and many other Kakadu birds with our free Kakadu birds app at the iTunes store.
