We’ve had a common rock rat living within in the Bowali Visitor Centre. As you can see from the photos, it took quite a liking to our bower bird display – chewing on the beak of the bower bird.
These creatures are well known for their love of nibbling on all sorts of things. Last year Kakadu rangers were called out to retrieve an Arnhem rock rat that was making a nuisance of itself at Jabiru airport. It had been chewing on electrical equipment, books, biscuits and muesli bars!
Our latest hungry visitor has now been released back into its natural habitat – where it should find some tastier items to chew on.
