A little rain, a lot of difference

Early rains at West Alligator Head

Kakadu is seeing some early rain as we approach Gunumeleng, the pre-monsoon storm season.

As you can see, a bit of water can make a big difference to a dirt road. I headed up to West Alligator Head over the weekend…bad timing after the rain!  The track was already pretty chopped up and our friend was soon seriously bogged. After we pulled him out we had to turn him around as the track only got worse from there.

When the local rangers tell me the track is still wet in the future, I’ll definitely believe them!
