Building Booderee’s soil knowledge

Soil sampling gets underway at Booderee

Booderee has kicked off a new Parks Australia research partnership to document the biodiversity of Australian soils.

With CSIRO and Bioplatforms Australia, we’re working to develop Australia’s first national dataset on soil biodiversity – the Biome of Australia Soil Environments, or BASE.

Booderee’s samples will be followed by collections from our other national parks and NRS properties.

CSIRO and Bioplatforms Australia will analyse genetic material to create a reference map of Australia’s soil – giving us a greater knowledge of soil nutrients and microbial processes around the continent and help everyone become better land managers.
