Jordan Roberts, James Mundy and Nathan Kosez were at risk of not completing school until they began working alongside the curator of Booderee Botanic Gardens, Bernie McLeod.
Now, with Bernie’s help, they are going to complete Year 12 with a Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management - and Jordan was named Indigenous student of the year at Vincentia High School’s NAIDOC Week celebrations.
Bernie will take the students on a two-week exchange to Kakadu National Park in September - a fantastic opportunity to learn how Indigenous rangers work in the Top End.
Next year’s school-based apprenticeship program will be bigger and better than ever - Bernie has been instrumental in recruiting 14 school-based apprentices not just for Booderee but for many agencies in the Jervis Bay Territory.
Fantastic acheivements all round!
