On this day in 1993 Uluru became the first Australian icon to receive a dual Aboriginal/English name.
The following year Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park became the second property in the world to be listed as a cultural landscape making it one of the few properties in the world listed as a World Heritage site for both its natural and cultural properties.
The listing of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park as such a unique World Heritage Property represents years of work by Anangu to assert their role as custodians of their traditional lands.
