On 26 October we celebrated 26 years since Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park was handed back to Anangu, the park’s traditional owners.
We celebrated the special day with a barbecue for Anangu, parks staff and other community members. Park visitors also joined in our celebrations at the Cultural Centre. For the men, traditional owner Reggie Uluru led a spear making demonstration while women were treated with a bush tucker demonstration by senior Anangu Barbara Tjikadu and Judy Trigger.
Our friends at Anangu Tours also marked the day with a spear throwing competition for visitors.
Our chairman Harry Wilson gave a speech to mark the occasion. We also welcomed some special guests from the Stolen Generations Alliance who were visiting Uluru after a conference in Ross River near Alice Springs.
