Breakfast with the birds

Superb fairy-wren at the Australian National Botanic Gardens

An abundance of birds nested at the Australian National Botanic Gardens this spring.

Each Saturday and Sunday morning from mid September to mid October I took visitors through the gardens on our annual Breakfast with the Birds walk. The early 8am start is a perfect time to observe birds conducting their often fascinating nesting routines.

This year we saw crimson rosellas, yellow wattle birds, new holland honeyeaters, gang-gang cockatoos, white-winged choughs, Australian magpies, superb fairy-wrens and satin bowerbirds to name just a few!

We finished every walk by enjoying breakfast at the gardens’ cafe and restaurant.

All agreed it was the perfect way to enjoy a spring morning.
