Indigenous Protected Areas - engaging communities

Gathering at Irving Creek for the IPA meeting

Over 100 people attended a meeting of the Katiti-Petermann Indigenous Protected Area advisory committee at Irving Creek just west of Uluru – with students and staff from the Docker River campus of Nyangatjatjara College also taking part.

On the second day of the meeting, a bonus discovery – evidence of surviving possums in the area!

IPA’s Gordon Waight says the three-day meeting is an outstanding example of community engagement in the potential declaration of an IPA, highlighting exactly why the program is so successful.
