Norfolk junior rangers get thumbs up

Norfolk Island kids got a taste of what it is like to be a national park ranger during the past school holidays when they took part in the park’s inaugural Junior Ranger Program.

Five local kids planted trees in the botanic garden, tackled weeds and explored the park while helping out with a bird survey — the highlight of which was a close encounter with a friendly green parrot.

The trial was a great success and the park is keen to develop the initiative further in future school breaks.
