Rufous hare wallaby thriving in the Red Centre

Do you know what a mala is?

Mala is the Pitjantjatjara name for the Rufous hare wallaby, now thriving in Australia’s Red Centre thanks to the hardwork of Anangu and Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park rangers. The critically-endangered mala were reintroduced to a special enclosure at the park in 2005 to boost numbers. A recent survey by rangers and traditional owners found numbers had increased by 108 this year alone.
