
Elders Josie Byno and Ray Barker celebrate the Weilmoringle declaration
The Murrawarri people of central New South Wales have celebrated the return of their country and the declaration of the Weilmoringle Indigenous Protected Area. The Murrawarri have been working with the Indigenous Land Corporation for many years to purchase Weilmoringle, a 3,500 hectare property on the New South Wales and Queensland border.

In an emotional celebration, five elders who made the original application for the land were honoured for their hard work. They received life memberships of the Weilmoringle Holding Company – the organisation set up by the Murrawarri Tribal Aboriginal Corporation to manage country.
